RULES are made to be Broken, even when it comes to Fashion
Answer to a Question in my latest blog from a fellow follower,
“Why can’t you wear white after Labor Day?”
While we all know this is a Fashion Cardinal Rule, rules are
made to be broken right? Of course they are!
Believe it or not this “old” fashion rule dates all the way
back to the Civil War time! The history is: White came to be in the early to
mid-20th century, there was no air-conditioning and it became a popular summer
item for the simple fact that it was cooler.
And when Labor Day became a federal holiday in 1894, it also became the
end of summer and an end to “the wearing of white.” Now we all know time changes things, and
things change with the times, so maybe now it is time for a change. Maybe we wear white a little bit longer
during the year, maybe we wear it all year-round, Coco Chanel certainly
did. This fabulous French Fashion
Designer and founder of Chanel was
known for her incredible sense of style and she was the only fashion designer
listed on Time Magazine’s list of the most 100 influential people of the 20th
century. And she kept “white” as a staple in her wardrobe. So I say we should too!
Bottom line, if it feels good and looks good then wear
it! You know my motto “Dare to be
Fabulous!” SO, I dare you to wear white
after Labor Day, it may the most fun you have had in a while!
One of my favorite famous quotes from Ms. Chanel: "Where
should one use perfume? a young woman asked. “Wherever one wants to be kissed’”
